► Post-Covid-19 disorders in children include:

The child may present with a persistent cough, chest pain, and shortness of breath when exercising. If there is lung damage on previous chest X-ray or CT images, the child should have a follow-up chest radiograph. For children over 6 years of age with persistent respiratory symptoms, the child should be tested for respiratory function. If the child often has difficulty breathing when exercising, it is necessary to evaluate the cardiovascular status and blood clotting disorder.

​Children may have post-Covid-19 myocarditis, with symptoms of: chest pain, shortness of breath, arrhythmia, fatigue. In severe cases, the child may have heart failure, myocardial infarction, or sudden cardiac arrest. 60% of children who survive Covid-19 develop myocarditis, regardless of the degree of Covid-19 infection.

1 in 4 children infected with Covid-19 will have a persistent change or loss of smell and/or taste. Loss of smell and/or taste affects children’s eating, easily leading to malnutrition or obesity. About 2-6 weeks after contracting Covid-19 some children (very low incidence) may have multisystem inflammatory syndrome presenting with damage to ≥ 2 of the following organs:​

  • Rash , conjunctivitis, dermatitis mucous membranes (mouth, hands, feet);
  • Low blood pressure or shock; Myocardial dysfunction, pericarditis, vasculitis, coronary abnormalities;
  • Blood clotting abnormalities; Digestive disorders (diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain).

This is a very serious injury after being infected with Covid-19, the child needs to be examined and treated promptly. In order to detect children with post-Covid-19 disorders early, parents need to pay attention to and regularly monitor their children’s health after being infected with Covid-19.
